KOKOMO, IND- Indiana University Kokomo’s Noah Etchison wins the Coke Player of the Game in his first home start with the Jackrabbits.

The Jackrabbits got off to a shaky start tonight, as Alex Dorethy struggled right out of the gate. Dorethy gave up three runs in only one and two thirds innings pitched.  Dorethy had trouble with his command as he walked five of the 13 batters he faced.

The bullpen was able to come in and close the door on the Miners, allowing just one run in relief of Dorethy. Chase Nix earned the win, going four innings for the Jackrabbits, allowing just two hits.

The offensive catalyst was Noah Etchison, who had a breakout performance for the Jackrabbits.  Etchison had made a couple of pinch hit appearances at Kokomo Municipal Stadium, but tonight was the first time Coach McClure has penciled him in the starting lineup. Noah made the most of his opportunity going 3-for-3 with a walk and five runs batted in.

The two-game sweep of the Miners gives the Jackrabbits some breathing room in the playoff hunt but there will be no time to relax, as the they travel to Chillicothe tomorrow for a pivotal two-game series against the division leading Paints. The two teams are currently separated by just a half game, which means the Jackrabbits will have a chance to retake the division lead.
