KOKOMO, IND. – The continuance of a season-long eight-game road trip and a return to Kokomo Municipal Stadium highlight the week of July 26-31.
The Gold and Brown, sitting 11-8 in the Prospect League’s second half and 26-23 overall, goes to Chillicothe’s Veterans Administration Memorial Stadium Tuesday, July 26, and Friday, July 29, for a pair of 7:05 p.m. contests against the Paints with two games against the Butler Blue Sox sandwiched between the Ohio visits Wednesday and Thursday, July 27 and 28, at 6:35 p.m. each evening at Kelly Automotive Stadium. Tied for the second section Eastern Division lead with first half champion West Virginia going into the week, the Jackrabbits return to KMS, recently named Ballpark Digest’s Summer Collegiate Ballpark of the Year for a second successive season, Saturday and Sunday, July 30 and 31, to take on the Hannibal Cavemen. First pitches are 7:05 p.m. Saturday and 3:05 p.m. Sunday.
WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT PROMOTIONS: WWE star Carlito makes an appearance during the July 30 game, while a rally towel giveaway is part of the next Keep Your Cool Sunday event July 31. NEWS AND NOTES: Photo finishes in both PL divisions appear to be on the agenda. All six teams in the East are separated by only four games, while four clubs in the West are shoehorned apart by just one game … Field manager Matt Howard’s squad continues to find itself among the league’s statistical leaders. On the mound, Lock Haven University’s Mike Anthony (2.05) and Ball State University’s Nick Floyd (2.89) are in the earned run average top 10, while Anthony’s 61 and a third innings of work lead the PL and Floyd’s 53 sits eighth. Anthony is also in the top 10 in strikeouts (47 – No. 7) and wins (seven – No. 1), and he and Floyd are tied for third in starts (eight). At the plate, Griffin Harms of Wayne State University is eighth in batting average (.326) and seventh in hits (57); Logan Barnes of Indiana University – Southeast is tied for fifth in doubles (12); Ryan Hutchinson of Illinois State University’s four triples are tied for the league lead; and former Jackrabbits’ infielder Caleb Stayton of Ball State University’s four round trippers are tied for sixth.
