KOKOMO, IND. – The Kokomo Jackrabbits face a span of six games in six days beginning Tuesday, July 19.
The Gold and Brown, looking to snap a three-game losing streak, host the Quincy Gems Tuesday and Wednesday, July 19 and 20, and then welcome the Hannibal Cavemen to Kokomo Municipal Stadium, recently named Ballpark Digest’s Summer Collegiate Ballpark of the Year for a second successive season, Thursday, July 21. Game times are 6:35 p.m. each evening.
Following the three in a row at home, the Jackrabbits take to the road for seven straight. The skein begins with contests at Hannibal Friday, July 22, and Quincy Saturday and Sunday, July 23 and 24.
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION: Fans will honor the state’s 200th birthday during this week’s home games. Included on the promotional schedule are two-for-one backyard seats Tuesday; a balloon giveaway and children 12 and under eating free (hot dog, bag of potato chips and a soda) Wednesday; and a birthday cake giveaway to the first 750 fans Thursday.
NEWS AND NOTES: Kokomo sits second, a game and a half behind West Virginia, on the Prospect League’s second half Eastern Division standings (6-6, 21-21 overall) … Six offensive statistical categories rank among the PL’s top 10 for the Jackrabbits through July 17 action. Infielders Caleb Stayton of Ball State University and Ryan Hutchinson of Illinois State and outfielder Griffin Harms of Wayne State University are listed in two areas. Stayton is tied for fifth in home runs (four) and ranks third in walks (28); Harms is seventh in batting average (.338) and eighth in hits (50); and Hutchinson is tied for seventh in triples (three) and is seventh in walks (23). Fellow infielder Logan Barnes of Indiana University – Southeast is tied for ninth in doubles (10) … On the mound, Mike Anthony of Lock Haven University is in the top 10 in wins (six – T-1st), innings pitched (55 and a third – 1st), starts (eight – T-4th), earned run average (2.11 – T-6th) and is one of only 13 pitchers to fire a complete game this season. The University of Missouri’s Ryan Lee joins him on the complete game list, and Baldwin-Wallace University’s Evan Lovick is tied with him for fourth in starts.
