A four-game home stand Tuesday, June 21 – Friday, June 24 awaits the Kokomo Jackrabbits on the heels of a rugged road trip.
With eight games remaining on the Prospect League’s first half schedule, the Jackrabbits, looking to break through a five-game slide, stand 10-12 and two and a half games behind West Virginia in the Eastern Division. The Miners pay a visit to Kokomo Municipal Stadium Friday with a 7:05 p.m. start to wrap up the home set. Prior to the division leaders making their way to town, the Springfield Sliders (Tuesday – 6:35 p.m.) and Butler Bluesox (Wednesday and Thursday – 6:35 p.m.) battle the Gold and Brown on their home field.
WAY DOWN IN KOKOMO: The Beach Boys/Cocktail move song that made the Howard County city famous is part of a promotion for the coming home set. Included in the celebration are two-for-one Backyard seats Tuesday; Jackrabbits sunglasses to the first 200 children in attendance and children 12 and under getting one hot dog/soda and bag of chips free Wednesday; Indiana University – Kokomo Appreciation Night Thursday which gets all IU-K staff, students and alums, with a valid ID, in for the cost of a Backyard seat ($5) and a $1 hot dog meal deal; and a bottle opener giveaway to the first 1250 fans in attendance Friday.
NEWS AND NOTES: Outfielder Griffin Harms of Wayne State University is getting notoriety from the Prospect League for his offensive successes. His .343 batting average is eighth-highest. Infielders Ryan Hutchinson of Illinois State University and Logan Barnes of Indiana University – Southeast are among the top 10 in triples (four and two, respectively); outfielder Alex Del Rio of the University of Missouri is in the same territory in home runs (two); and utility player Clayton Benefield of Indiana University – Southeast is tied for sixth in RBI (15) … Hutchinson’s top 10 league listing is proven by a seven-game hitting streak. He’s picked up multiple hits in three of those contests … On the mound, Lock Haven University’s Michael Anthony is 15th in the league in earned run average (2.28) and is part of a six-way tie for third in wins (three), while Indiana University – South Bend’s Trey Bickel is tied for the top spot in saves (three) … The current four-game home stand begins a busy run for the Jackrabbits at KMS, as they play six of their next eight on the turf.
