Miners’ hurlers handcuff KokomoJune 16, 2016
BECKLEY, W.V. – Third baseman Ryan Hutchinson of Illinois State University singled and drove in a run, while first baseman Caleb Stayton of Ball State University tripled to lead the Kokomo Jackrabbits’ offensive output in game one of a two-game Prospect League set at Linda K. Epling Stadium Thursday, June 16.
Richardson’s sixth RBI of the campaign helped the visitors close to within 4-1 of the host Miners of West Virginia in the fourth. However, battling a dominant four-man pitching line-up, the Jackrabbits, slipping to 10-9, couldn’t get any closer as the home side moved on to an 8-1 win.
West Virginia’s mound staff combined for eight strikeouts and surrendered only five hits. Kokomo’s pitching night was spotlighted by a pair of new faces from the bullpen, as Matt Ulrich of Millersville University and J.R. Reimer of Northwestern University blanked the home team bats on one hit over the final two and a third innings.
The Jackrabbits and Miners continue their brief series Friday, June 17. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
