Seventh-inning outburst diffuses Kokomo comeback

July 17, 2016

KOKOMO, IND. – The host Kokomo Jackrabbits flirted with breaking through for a home victory Sunday, July 17.

Trailing the visiting Terre Haute TRex 4-0 after three and a half frames, the Gold and Brown’s offense started the charge back, plating two runs in the fifth on an error and a wild pitch and a single tally in the 6th on another error to close within 4-3. However, the visitors answered in spades with five scores in the top of the seventh behind a pair of doubles amongst four hits that led to a 9-4 Prospect League win.

Right fielder Cole Nieto of Baldwin-Wallace University, gaining Coca-Cola Player of the Game honors, got on base three times, doubled and scored a run to lead the offensive attack.

Kokomo, sitting 6-6 in the second half and 21-21 overall, resume a six-game home stand Tuesday, July 19. The Quincy Gems come to town for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch.
