KOKOMO, IND- The Jackrabbits hold ground with the Paints in the playoff race after taking one of two games against the Gems.

Taylor Soper was unquestionably the story of game one in today’s double header. He threw a complete game shutout in the shortened seven inning game for the Jackrabbits. The outing was good enough to get him nominated as the Coke Player of the Game. Soper collected eight strikeouts in seven innings allowing just three hits and one walk.

Neil Lambert was a key contributor for the Jackrabbits offense. He scored two runs in the game and collected an RBI while going 2-for-3. Wilson, Walters and Buchberger all added RBI hits of their own during game one.

Game two was a different story for the Jackrabbits. They jumped out to an early lead with a pair of RBI doubles by Walters and Buchberger. The lead was relatively short lived after a shaky defensive third inning. The Gems scored four runs on two hits, two walks and an error by Jacob Buchberger of the Jackrabbits. The big third inning for the Gems ended up being the difference in the game.

Next up on the slate for the Jackrabbits is a two game, home and home series against the Aviators. They head to Lafayette tomorrow (August 2nd) before hosting the Aviators during Thriller Night at Kokomo Municipal Stadium on August 3rd. The Jackrabbits currently hold a one game advantage in the Battle for State Road 26 which will conclude with Friday night’s matchup.
