QUINCY, ILL. – Chestnut Hill College’s Matthew Owens and Baldwin-Wallace’s Cole Nieto each drove in runs for the Kokomo Jackrabbits Saturday, July 23, highlighting a hard-fought Prospect League loss at Quincy University Stadium.
The Gold and Brown, falling to 10-8 in the second half and 25-23 overall, held a 1-0 edge after three innings and then battled back from a two-run Gems rally in the fourth with another score in the seventh. The game remained at 2-2 until the bottom of the 11th when the home side pushed across the deciding run in a 3-2 decision.
Owens and Nieto also contributed a hit apiece for the Jackrabbits’ offense. The other three safeties came from catcher Mitch Stoltzfus of Millersville University who doubled; infielder Ryan Hutchinson of Illinois State University who scored twice; and fellow infielder Connor Dall of Butler University. The pitching quartet of the University of Missouri’s Ryan Lee; Butler University’s Quentin Miller; Indiana University – Southeast’s Ryne Underwood and Millersville University’s Matt Ulrich kept the visitors close throughout, striking over seven and giving up just nine hits over 10-plus frames.
