Jackrabbits staff stymies Quincy, completes series sweepJuly 20, 2016
KOKOMO, IND. – A familiar formula to success was used again Wednesday, July 20, by the Kokomo Jackrabbits.
The Gold and Brown (8-6 Prospect League second half, 23-21 overall) had another flawless game defensively while a pitching trio of Kean University’s Chris Amato, Indiana University’s Parker Sanburn and Millersville University’s Matt Ulrich blanked the visiting Quincy Gems on four hits with seven strikeouts, of which Sanburn fired five straight in a seventh and eighth inning sequence, thrown in for good measure.
“Whether it’s hitting, pitching or defense, our guys know it takes just one person to get it sparked,” field manager Matt Howard said. “Chris and the bullpen were solid, we got some key hits, and our defense was very strong.”
Amato’s first PL start turned in to a victory due to his team’s offensive effort. Outfielder Griffin Harms of Wayne State University cracked three singles and drove in two runs in route to Coca-Cola Player of the Game honors, and outfielder Alex Del Rio of the University of Missouri tripled as part of a two-hit effort with a run and RBI added in.
The Jackrabbits wrap up a six-game home stand Thursday, July 21, as the Hannibal Cavemen pay a visit to Kokomo Municipal Stadium. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
