Offensive onslaught concludes road sweepJune 8, 2016
QUINCY, ILL. – Ball State University’s Caleb Stayton doubled as part of a three-hit, one-RBI night, and Illinois State University’s Ryan Hutchinson and the University of Missouri’s Alex Del Rio each homered to help send the Kokomo Jackrabbits past the host Quincy Gems Wednesday, April 8.
Stayton recorded his second multiple-hit effort in a Gold and Brown uniform, while Del Rio’s early-season roll resumed with his third multi-safety outing in four games played. Kean University’s Chris Amato added his name to the hit parade list with two as part of an 11-hit attack that led to a 9-1 victory at Quincy University Stadium.
A pair of four-run rallies in the first and third innings was more than enough for an impressive pitching effort from Indiana University – South Bend’s Trey Bickel, Butler University’s Quentin Miller, Indiana University-Southeast’s Ryne Underwood and Amato. The quartet limited the Gems to a run on three hits while combining for 12 strikeouts.
The Jackrabbits, riding a three-game win skein and sitting at 6-6, begin a three-game home stand Thursday, June 9. The Gems visit Kokomo Municipal Stadium for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch as a Princesses/Superheroes promotion opens with a special Teachers Appreciation Night. All teachers, with a valid ID, entering the gates receive a $5 backyard ticket and $1 hot dog deal.
