Jackrabbits close out pre-All Star schedule with split

LAFAYETTE, IND. – Infielder Logan Barnes of Indiana University – Southeast smashed a home run and double as part of a four-hit, two-runs scored, one-RBI day Sunday, July 10, leading the Kokomo Jackrabbits past the Lafayette Aviators 7-6.

Barnes was one of four Gold and Brown players registering multiple-hit efforts at Loeb Stadium. Outfielder Griffin Harms of Wayne State University, designated hitter Mitch Stoltzfus of Millersville University and infielder Chris Amato of Kean University each tallied two hits as part of a 14-hit offensive effort. The Jackrabbits, improving to 6-3 in the Prospect League’s second half and 21-18 overall, held off a ninth-inning comeback attempt to forge a weekend split with their rivals.

Lafayette won the weekend opener 13-4 Saturday, July 9. Harms and outfielder Alex Del Rio of the University of Missouri turned in two hits each, while infielder Ryan Hutchinson of Illinois State University drilled three hits including a triple and home run.

Kokomo, the second half Eastern Division leaders going into the All-Star break, return to action Friday, July 15. The Danville Dans come to town for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch that begins a six-game home stand.
