Brown and Gold homestand begins on high note

July 16, 2017

KOKOMO, IND. – Much like the feeling of the mid-July central Indiana weather, the bats of the Kokomo Jackrabbits remained on sizzle Sunday, July 16.

First-year field manager Gary McClure’s squad, setting a new franchise mark for successive home victories with their sixth straight, jumped out of the starting gate and didn’t look back in route to a 14-3 decision in front of better than 1400 happy Kokomo Municipal Stadium fans. Leading the way to a sixth overall and third double-digit total in the last eight contests was Coca-Cola Player of the Game honoree Austin Petravicius. The left fielder ripped a long three-run home run during a six-run seventh-inning rally to highlight a two-hit, two-runs scored, five-RBI outing.

Third baseman Storm Joop, first baseman Romero Harris and center fielder Luke Fegen added two-hit afternoons to help the team total 17, a new franchise single-game record. The offensive explosion was more than enough to aid starting pitcher Breton LaRose’s second victory of the season.

The Jackrabbits continue three in a row at home Tuesday, July 18. First pitch is 6:35 p.m. against Prospect League rival Lafayette.
