Bats power Jackrabbits to series splitJuly 14, 2017
QUINCY, ILL. – A night removed from a rugged 11-run sixth inning rally dealt to visiting Kokomo by the host Quincy Gems, first-year field manager Gary McClure’s team got a measure of revenge in the Prospect League series finale at Quincy University Stadium Friday, July 14.
Outfielder Frankie Jezioro blasted a three-run home run to go with a pair of two-run doubles from shortstop Imani Willis and fellow outfielder Austin Petravicius to highlight an eight-run first for the Brown and Gold. The home side crept as close as 8-5 with back-to-back two-run rallies in the fourth and fifth before Kokomo, improving to 17-20, put the contest away for good with three in the sixth and four in the eighth in route to a 15-7 win.
Jezioro’s huge three-hit, two-runs scored and three-RBI night led the attack. Willis, designated hitter Alex Del Rio and outfielder Luke Fegen added two hits apiece with the Austin Peay product gathering a pair of RBI to his total. The Jackrabbits’ final run total marked the fifth time this season they hit double digits, while the 15 tallies tied a franchise game record.
Kokomo continues its current road swing with a doubleheader at PL rival Lafayette’s Loeb Stadium Saturday, July 15. Start times are approximately 5 and 7:05 p.m.
