LAFAYETTE, IND. – Designated hitter Austin Petravicius homered, scored twice and drove in three runs, highlighting a doubleheader for the visiting Kokomo Jackrabbits at Loeb Stadium Sunday, July 23.
The Davenport University product’s fifth big fly of the year got the Brown and Gold out of the gate in the opener, staking them to a 3-0 lead. However, the host and Prospect League rival Lafayette Aviators responded with five in their half of the fame and didn’t look back over the next 13 innings. The home side claimed game one 12-4 and game two 12-0.
Shortstop Imani Willis, hailing from Austin Peay University, added a multiple-hit effort in game one for first-year field manager Gary McClure’s crew, going three-for-four with a run scored. Southeastern Community College’s Zeb Adreon registered a hit, run and RBI.
Lafayette, keeping a two-game lead on Terre Haute in the Western Division, compiled 12 runs on 12 hits in the opener to enable starting pitcher Logan Beaman to gain the win. They came back with a similar number on their home scoreboard in the nightcap, but Caleb Sleeman didn’t need as much support. The Michigan State hurler no-hit the Brown and Gold and struck out six to wrap up the sweep.
The Jackrabbits, sitting 21-26 and within four games of a possible postseason playoff slot, returns home to Kokomo Municipal Stadium Tuesday, July 25. Springfield pays a visit for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch.
