Jackrabbits, Lafayette reach season series halfway pointJuly 6, 2017
KOKOMO, IND. – First baseman Romero Harris blasted his fourth home run, and right fielder Zeb Adreon continued his fast start in a Brown and Gold uniform Tuesday, July 4, lifting the home-standing Kokomo Jackrabbits.
Harris’ second inning solo shot, tying up the Prospect League clash with rival Lafayette at 1-1, highlighted a two-for-three, three-run scored plate effort for the Wabash Valley College product. Adreon tallied three hits in four at-bats, including a double, to go with three runs scored and two RBI. The bottom half of first-year field manager Gary McClure’s line-up didn’t stop there against the Aviators, as third baseman Storm Joop had a safety and two RBI, and second baseman Mitchell Austin finished with two hits and an RBI to roll the home team to an 8-3 victory in front of better than 1200 appreciative fans at Kokomo Municipal Stadium.
The offensive outburst was more than enough to assist starting pitcher David Flattery in his first PL outing. The University of Nebraska at Omaha hurler struck out eight opposing batters over six and two-thirds frames in route to the victory.
With the Jackrabbits holding a 6-4 edge in the 2017 edition of the Battle for State Highway 26, two more contests between the league rivals are on the schedule Thursday, July 6, at KMS and Friday, July 7, at Loeb Stadium. Game times are 6:35 p.m. Thursday and 7:05 p.m. Friday.
