Lafayette overcomes Brown and Gold in second half openerJuly 3, 2017
LAFAYETTE, IND. – Outfielder Luke Fegen and shortstop Imani Willis combined to bash a pair of triples and a home run to guide Kokomo’s offense at Loeb Stadium Monday, July 3.
Even with Fegen delivering two RBI and a run scored among his two safeties, one of which was a three-bagger, and Willis resuming a white hot four-game hit skein due to his fourth multiple-safety outing in the last 10 contests that featured a triple, home run and five RBI, it wasn’t enough to get past a Lafayette Aviators’ offense that drilled 13 hits and took advantage of eight free passes in route to a 15-9 Prospect League decision. The visiting Jackrabbits nearly came off the mat from a 13-2 third inning deficit, scoring three in the fifth, three in the eighth and one in the ninth but couldn’t get over the hump.
The two league rivals resume the 2017 edition of the Battle for State Highway 26 Tuesday, July 4, with a 6:35 p.m. start at Kokomo Municipal Stadium. It’s $2 Tuesday with all beer, burgers, hot dogs and sodas costing $2.
