Aviators’ fast start dooms Kokomo

July 19, 2017

KOKOMO, IND. – Shortstop Imani Willis kept his steady bat going, and recent roster addition Braeden Brown wowed a home crowd of better than 1300 with a pair of hits including a double, as the Kokomo Jackrabbits returned to action Tuesday, July 18.

Willis, entering the contest among the Prospect League’s 10 best in batting, continued that trend registering at least one safety for the ninth time in 11 contests. He finished his evening three for four with a double and two runs scored. Brown, the evening’s Coca-Cola Player of the Game at Kokomo Municipal Stadium, drove in two scores and crossed home plate once himself to add to his resume.

Even with those accolades as part of a 13-hit attack against Lafayette Aviator pitching, it wasn’t enough to overcome an aerial assault from the visitors that featured six runs in the second and five in the fifth as part of a 17-6 final. Lafayette’s win tightened the Battle for State Highway 26 numbers, as the Brown and Gold now hold an 8-6 edge with six match-ups remaining.

First-year field manager Gary McClure’s team is back at action at home Wednesday, July 19. The Quincy Gems from the PL’s Western Division take an eastern trek for a 6:35 p.m. start.
