Chillicothe offensive display overcomes Brown and Gold

July 28, 2017

KOKOMO, IND. – Visiting Chillicothe had four players tally multiple-hit and multiple-RBI efforts Friday, July 28, sending the Paints past the host Kokomo Jackrabbits 10-3.

Despite a 12-hit attack and eight-run rally over the fourth through sixth frames against the home pitching staff, there were chances for the fifth-largest crowd in franchise history (2,782) inside Kokomo Municipal Stadium to get on its feet. Recent team addition Ian Walters continued to flash the leather at shortstop and was the team’s top hitter going two-for-three, while Andrew Dyke came off the bench in the late stages and clocked a triple into the gap in left center field during the 8th inning.

First-year field manager Gary McClure’s pitching staff also managed some highlights. The relief tandem of Darick Hayes and Colby Malson retired the final 12 Chillicothe players to step to the plate, and Malson was tabbed Coca-Cola Player of the Game after his nine-up, nine-down effort that included striking out the side in the final frame as part of five strikeouts in three innings of work.

The Jackrabbits wrap up a three-game home stand Saturday, July 29, as Champion City visits KMS for a 7:05 p.m. start. It’s the final section of a two-day County celebration with a special jersey auction set and a post-game concert planned.
