Paints Penned – Flattery Blanks Chillicothe

July 27, 2017

KOKOMO, IND. – Flattery is indeed the sincerest form of compliment.

Just ask the better than 1300 fans at Kokomo Municipal Stadium Thursday, July 27. They saw Jackrabbits’ starter David Flattery compliment a needed Brown and Gold victory by corralling the Chillicothe Paints to the tune of no runs on three hits while striking out seven in a 115-pitch gem that took just two hours and 11 minutes to play.

The University of Nebraska-Omaha hurler worked through a one-out double in the top of the first, taking command from that point by not allowing a visiting runner to advance to third and retiring 13 in a row at one point. He was nearly matched pitch-for-pitch by Chillicothe pitcher Danny Cody, as the Paints’ starter struck out six in six and two-thirds.

Kokomo took advantage of a high throw home in the bottom of the second to plate four runs, as Cody walked and hit a batter after a Storm Joop single opened the frame as part of a bases loaded situation. Shortstop Braeden Brown and left fielder Austin Petravicius added to the rally with run-scoring swings.

First-year field manager Gary McClure’s squad looks to continue the home stand on its current high note Friday, July 28. The Jackrabbits and Paints match up at 7:05 p.m. with the start of a Country Days promotion beginning with a post-game fireworks celebration spotlighting the evening.
