Miller gem breaks loss skidJuly 21, 2017
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO – Staying in the conversation is key at this time of year.
Just ask Kokomo Jackrabbits’ starting pitcher Quentin Miller and his teammates how much. The Brown and Gold, reaching the 20-win mark, pulled within a half-game of moving past the host Chillicothe Paints and out of the Prospect League Eastern Division cellar with a 2-0 victory at a steamy Veterans Administration Memorial Stadium.
Remaining just four and a half games off the pace for the second and final divisional playoff spot with 16 games to play, Miller’s right arm proved the difference. The Butler University product, thrust into the staff’s ace role after various roster moves in recent weeks, K’ed 15 home nine hitters, good for a franchise record, while surrendering only five hits through eight frames. The University of Missouri’s Josh Konecek worked around a one-out double in the Paints’ final at-bat to cinch the 2-0 win.
The offensive heroics for the visitors were supplied by the trio of third baseman Storm Joop, right fielder Zeb Adreon and left fielder Austin Petravicus. They each connected for a pair of safeties with Joop and Adreon adding a run scored and RBI to their evenings, respectively.
First-year field manager Gary McClure’s team returns to Kokomo Municipal Stadium Saturday, July 22, for a 7:05 p.m. start against the Quincy Gems, highlighted by a special Star Wars promotion.
