Offensive battle goes way of Chillicothe

July 20, 2017

CHILLICOTHE, OHIO – Despite digging as large as a seven-run deficit at Veterans Administration Memorial Stadium, the visiting Kokomo Jackrabbits offer the host Chillicothe Paints an easy finish Thursday, July 20.

The Brown and Gold nearly put the brakes on a brief skid that began on their home FieldTurf with back-to-back losses to Lafayette and Quincy July 18 and 19. After holding an early 5-3 edge after three and a half frames, first-year field manager Gary McClure’s crew was struck by a home team blitzkrieg that let up the scoreboard to the tune of 11 tallies from the fourth through sixth innings. Down 14-7, Kokomo put their rally shoes on, plating two runs each in the seventh and eighth to close within three and were on the verge of advancing closer and possibly overtaking their hosts but left two on in the eighth and the bases loaded in the ninth to wrap up a 14-11 defeat.

Infielder Chris Reid and catcher Collin Butkiewicz guided a 15-hit attack. They each ended with three which included three RBI and a pair of doubles for Reid and a run scored and driven in for Butkiewicz. Adding to the offense fest was pinch-hitting outfielder Austin Petravicius with his third home run and a pair of RBI.

Kokomo and Chillicothe close out their two-game set Friday, July 21. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
