Four-game home stand opens with offensive attackJune 3, 2017
KOKOMO, IND. – The twists and turns of the early section of the 2017 Kokomo Jackrabbits’ season continued Saturday, June 3.
Both Prospect League Eastern Division leading Chillicothe and the host Brown and Gold took haymakers at each other with their respective offenses. The Paints jumped out with a solo score in the first but then found themselves trailing 3-1 after manager Gary McClure’s crew rattled visiting starter Zach Harvey to the tune of four hits, plating three tallies. The scoreboard at Kokomo Municipal Stadium stayed that way until a decisive four-run fourth for Chillicothe. Kokomo closed within 5-4 with a run in the seventh, but the Paints put up three in the eighth to help seal an 8-6 victory.
Third baseman Mitchell Austin of Highland Community College, the Coca-Cola Player of the Game, thrilled a home crowd of better than 1,500 fans with three hits in four at-bats. He was joined in leading a 13-hit Jackrabbits’ hitting total by center fielder Luke Fegen and shortstop Andrew Curran each of whom registered a pair of safeties.
Kokomo, dipping to 2-3, continues a two-game set with Chillicothe Sunday, June 4. First pitch is 3:05 p.m. for the third portion of the Princesses and Superheroes promotion, the first Super Soaker Sunday and playing catch in the outfield post-game sponsored by Fiat-Chrysler Automotive.
