Brown and Gold walks off Eastern Division leadersJuly 2, 2017
KOKOMO, IND. – Three free passes and a pair of sacrifice bunts sent a crowd of better than 1700 fans home happy from Kokomo Municipal Stadium Sunday, July 2.
First baseman Romero Harris, catcher Colin Butkiewicz, and second baseman Mitchell Austin made things difficult for Kings’ reliever Connor Crotty forcing walks to load the bases in the bottom of the ninth. Center fielder Luke Fegen cashed with a squeeze that sent pinch runner Frankie Jezioro scooting home with the tie-breaking and winning score of a 3-2 final after the throw home was off line. The Brown and Gold’s last at-bat heroics made a winner out of relief pitcher Josh Konecek for the second time this season.
The highlights for first-year field manager Gary McClure’s squad didn’t end with the winning combination. Zeb Adreon, in his first Prospect League and Howard County opportunity, delivered big results with a hit and two RBI, and starting pitcher Tucker Waddups fired seven strikeouts at the visiting offense.
Kokomo continues a span of 13 games over 13 successive days Monday, July 3, traveling to rival Lafayette for a 6:35 p.m. start. The Jackrabbits are back at KMS for a 4th of July evening affair against the Aviators with a similar first pitch, as it’s $2 Tuesday with fans in attendance receiving all sodas, hot dogs, burgers and beer for $2 each.
