Fast start sends Champion City past Jackrabbits

July 1, 2017

SPRINGFIELD, OHIO – Designated hitter Alex Del Rio homered and scored twice, and first baseman Romero Harris turned in three hits to lead Kokomo in the final leg of a three-game Prospect League road trip Saturday, July 1.

Del Rio’s seventh multiple-hit game of 2017 was spotlighted by his third round tripper, a solo shot in the eighth. Harris, after a meteoric beginning to the year in which his average was as high as .450, compiled his fourth multiple safety contest and first since June 9.

Even with those efforts in the offensive bank, it wasn’t enough to add up for a win for first-year field manager Gary McClure’s squad. The host Champion City Kings defended their Carleton Davidson Stadium with five tallies in the first inning in route to a 7-3 victory.

The two sides bring the curtain on the PL’s first half Sunday, July 2, as Champion City makes the trek to Kokomo Municipal Stadium for a 3:05 p.m. first pitch. Fans in attend receive an American flag as part of a day which features a kids’ club game, the always-popular Super Soaker promotion and the chance to play catch on the field at game’s end.
