Jackrabbits stop skid, earn splitJune 27, 2017
SPRINGFIELD, OHIO – Second baseman Jarrod Watkins and left fielder Austin Petravicius proved big keys to Kokomo reaching double digits in wins for the first half of the 2017 Prospect League season Tuesday, June 27.
Watkins ripped a two-run double as part of a four-run Jackrabbits’ rally in the top of the sixth, and Petravicius tripled and singled during the evening at Carleton Davidson Stadium, plating a tally during a three-run top of the seventh which sealed a 7-3 victory over the Champion City Kings. The comeback from an early 3-0 deficit made a winner out of reliever Breton LaRose, his first victory in a Brown and Gold uniform, while his collegiate teammate Mike Anthony came out of the bullpen and worked a two-inning save with four strikeouts.
In the opener, which was also a seven-inning affair, designated hitter Alex Del Rio doubled, drove in a run and scored a run, highlighting a five-hit attack by the top half of the line-up.
With Del Rio’s effort included, first-year field manager Gary McClure’s top four hitters went five-for-13 at the dish against Kings’ starter Jake Vance. Unfortunately, those numbers were all the Brown and Gold could muster, as Vance went the distance in route to a 4-2 home team victory.
The two teams shift the scene to Kokomo Municipal Stadium Wednesday, June 28, as part of five games against each other over the next six days. First pitch is 6:35 p.m. as it’s a Family Wednesday with two dugout reserved tickets, two sodas and two hot dogs costing only $20 for patrons in attendance.
