Kings power past JackrabbitsJune 17, 2017
KOKOMO, IND. – Second baseman Jarrod Watkins rapped a pair of base hits, scored a run and reached base three times, leading the Kokomo Jackrabbits as they returned to Kokomo Municipal Stadium Saturday, June 17.
Watkins’ third multiple-hit game of the year led an offensive attack that produced eight safeties against the visiting Kings of Champion City. Catcher Colin Butkiewicz added to the numbers for first-year field manager Gary McClure’s squad, driving in a score during a two-run first inning rally with a triple.
Despite those accolades, the visiting side, facing the Brown and Gold at KMS for the first time in club history, made it a memorable day trip, registering a pair of three-run outbursts in the second and sixth inning to lead them to an 8-3 victory. Kokomo (7-9) continues a brief two-game home set Sunday, June 18, welcoming Prospect League rival Lafayette to town for the sixth installment of the 2017 Battle for State Highway 26. Game time is 3:05 p.m.
Celebrate Father’s Day by bringing dad out to KMS for the second half of the Saturday Night Fever promotion. The afternoon is highlighted by a kids’ club game and team pennant giveaway along with the second Super Soaker and post-game catch events on the field.
