Jackrabbits raise home win skein to four

July 8, 2017

KOKOMO, IND. – A Christmas in July promotion at Kokomo Municipal Stadium couldn’t have been more appropriate Saturday, July 8.

First-year field manager Gary McClure’s squad, increasing its win streak on the field turf at KMS to four, left plenty of presents under the proverbial tree for a crowd of nearly 1,700 to enjoy. From a three-hit, one-RBI effort out of always-dangerous leadoff hitter Luke Fegen to a key three-run triple in a four-run sixth inning outburst off the bat of designated hitter Alex Del Rio with his parents looking on, there was something for everyone on Santa Jax’s list including the pitching trio of Will Freeman, Darick Hayes and Dalton Leighty as part of an 8-5 victory.

Joining in the 12-hit parade for the offense was the number eight and nine combination of catcher Collin Butkiewicz and outfielder Frankie Jezioro. Butkiewicz put the star on the winning tree with Coca Cola Player of the Game honors after tripling, scoring twice and driving in two runs during his two-for-three outing. Jezioro added a pair of safeties and two runs scored.

The Brown and Gold, improving to 15-19, resume the two-game set with the visiting Butler Blue Sox Sunday, July 9. First pitch is 3:05 p.m. with an Ugly Sweater/T-Shirt Giveaway highlighting the second day of the Christmas in July event.
