Jackrabbits bats, Freeman overwhelm ButlerJuly 1, 2017
BUTLER, PENN. – Center fielder Imani Willis crushed a double and a triple for a second successive evening on the road for the Kokomo Jackrabbits, lifting first-year field manager Gary McClure’s team to a split with Prospect League foe Butler Friday, June 30.
A night removed from a tough 6-3 loss to the Blue Sox at Kelly Automotive Park, the Brown and Gold’s bats left no doubt from the get go. A bases-loaded walk, a fielder’s choice and a sacrifice fly plated three runs in the visitors’ first at-bat, and Kokomo didn’t look back. A four-run fourth inning rally and three-run ninth inning outburst later helped cement an 11-1 victory.
Willis, with four hits, led the Jackrabbits. He also added two runs scored and two RBI to his total. Catcher Collin Butkiewicz and second baseman Andrew Curran tallied three-hit and two-hit evenings, respectively. A 13-hit attack was more than enough for starter Will Freeman who collected his second complete game victory in his last four outings and fourth double-digit strikeout total of the season.
The Jackrabbits conclude a three-game road trip Saturday, July 1, with a journey to Champion City’s Carleton Davidson Stadium. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
