Willis’ big night not enough for JackrabbitsJune 29, 2017
BUTLER, PENN. – Nick Bucci made things difficult on visiting Kokomo throughout the night at Kelly Automotive Park Thursday, June 29.
The Blue Sox starter limited the Jackrabbits to just three earned runs on four hits over eight and a third frames to guide the home side to a 6-3 Prospect League decision. First-year field manager Gary McClure’s crew did get a top-notch plate effort from outfielder Imani Willis, though. The Austin Peay player homered, doubled, drove in a run and scored twice, as his batting average remained above .300 (.319) and his slugging percentage soared back over .500 (.542).
Kokomo, despite falling to 10-17 in the first half of the 2017 season, made it exciting in its final at-bat. Willis’ two-bagger led to a run after a stolen base and wild pitch, while fellow outfielder Andrew Dyke singled in a second score. The Brown and Gold brought the potential tying run to the plate before a strikeout closed out the contest.
The Jackrabbits resume a three-game road trip with their second match-up against Butler Friday, June 30. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
