Butler rally dashes Kokomo home victory opportunity

June 25, 2017

KOKOMO, IND. – Optimism abounded across Kokomo Municipal Stadium in the early innings of the final game of a four-date home set Sunday, June 25.

As it should, as first-year field manager Gary McClure’s Jackrabbits opened a 4-0 edge after two. Catcher Alex Del Rio hit a two-run big fly to right center field in the first, and left fielder Frankie Jezioro singled home a third tally followed by a run-scoring sacrifice fly off the bat of shortstop Andrew Curran in the second frame.

However, the visiting Butler Blue Sox, as they did the opener of the two-game series Saturday, rallied back with nine runs crossing the plate from the sixth through eighth innings. That attack was enough to send the Brown and Gold to a 10-6 defeat, their sixth in a row at KMS. Del Rio, the Coca-Cola Player of the Game, and right fielder Austin Petravicius each wound up with two safeties, while Curran and Del Rio knocked in two runs apiece for the Kokomo offense.

After a short one-game trip to Champion City Tuesday, June 27, the Jackrabbits return home to face the Kings Wednesday, June 28, at 6:35 p.m. It’s the third Family Wednesday event of the season, as fans can receive two dugout reserved tickets, two hot dogs and two sodas for $20.
