Strong pitching theme continues for Brown and Gold

June 24, 2017

KOKOMO, IND. – Lock Haven University’s Mike Anthony gave the more than 2,100 fans in attendance at Kokomo Municipal Stadium plenty to remember Saturday, June 24.

For a second successive evening in the midst of a four-game home stand, a Jackrabbits hurler was the talk of the town. One night after fellow starter Will Freeman dazzled defending Prospect League champion West Virginia to the tune of 10 strikeouts, Anthony equaled that marked and two-upped it with 12, tying a season-high with Freeman in a game. He also equaled his staff mate with the second complete game effort of the first half, the fifth in club history.

Even with his efforts which included working around a four-run Butler Blue Sox fifth inning rally after retiring the 12 visiting batters he faced, the Jackrabbits (9-13) couldn’t muster enough offense to offset a five-run, eight-hit attack by the Pennsylvania club. The home team offense did get the crowd buzzing in the fifth, answering Butler’s top half charge with three of its own, as shortstop Andrew Curran doubled in a pair of runs and right fielder Imani Willis followed him with an RBI two-bagger. Curran, Willis, second baseman Jarrod Watkins and first baseman J.T. Conti each tallied two hits.

Kokomo wraps up its current home set Sunday, June 25. Game time is 3:05 p.m.
