Kokomo Claims Both Wins in Doubleheader Against Springfield

The Kokomo Jackrabbits and Springfield Sliders met Friday night for a doubleheader at Kokomo Municipal Stadium. Through extra innings, the Jackrabbits defeated the Sliders 5-4 in the first game and 3-2 in the second.
In the first game, the Jackrabbits really came to life in the fifth inning. #23 Sal Taormina (Kean University) scored, courtesy of #7 Reilly Hawkins (Kent State University) RBI. #29 Evan Warden (Purdue University) crossed the plate to tie the game, 2-2. Then, #10 Chris Amato (Kean University) and Hawkins each scored, giving the Jackrabbits the 4-2 lead.
In the tenth inning, Taormina scored #8 CJ Price (Washington University in St. Louis) for the winning run, claiming the 5-4 win over the Sliders.
Moving into the second game of the night, the Jackrabbits again rallied in the fifth inning after #26 Evan Nelson (Western Michigan University), Warden, and Amato each scored to take the lead 3-2.
#27 Felix Baez (Keystone College) earned Player of the Game honors after setting a new Jackrabbit pitching record with fourteen strikeouts.
The Jackrabbits, now 19-17, travel to Danville, Illinois on Saturday to face the Danville Dans at 6:30 p.m. Kokomo will host Danville on Sunday for the away/home two game series at 3:05 p.m. To continue the "America Rocks" home stand there will be a camouflage jersey auction and fans will receive an American Bobblehead (while supplies last) at the stadium gates.
