KOKOMO, IND. – The Battle for State Highway 26 resumes its 2017 edition Tuesday and Wednesday, June 20 and 21, at Lafayette’s Loeb Stadium, while a four-game home stand Thursday-Saturday, June 22-25 features defending Prospect League champion West Virginia and Butler.
Game times at Lafayette are 6:35 p.m. each evening. Over the quartet of contests at Kokomo Municipal Stadium, first pitches are set for 6:35 p.m. Thursday and 7:05 p.m. Friday versus the Miners and 7:05 p.m. Saturday and 3:05 p.m. Sunday against the Blue Sox.
A WORD FROM OUR PROMOTIONS DEPARTMENT: It is the second Taco Thursday June 22, as individuals in attendance can purchase three tacos for $5 and $5 margaritas along with a fidget spinner giveaway for fans 12 and under. The remaining three home dates are part of the Jax Potter promotion. A wizard glasses and lightning bolt tattoo giveaway along with post-game fireworks is set for Friday; a Jax Potter bobble head giveaway will be held Saturday; and a Jax Potter jersey auction and kids’ club game to go with the third Super Soaker and post-game catch opportunity as well as children being able to run the bases is on the calendar for Sunday.
MORE JACKRABBITS SUCCESS IN MAJOR LEAGUE DRAFT: Former Brown and Gold pitcher Patrick Dayton was selected in the 25th round by the St. Louis Cardinals in the recently completed MLB draft. He joins former standout and 2015 Prospect League all-star game Most Outstanding Player Mark Zimmerman on the club annals for entry-level draft selection.
Zimmerman is currently in short-season Class A ball on the Tri-City Dust Devils roster within the San Diego Padres organization. He had been with the full season Class A Fort Wayne Tincaps earlier this year.
WE LOVE KMS … WE HOPE YOU DO, TOO: Kokomo Municipal Stadium is in process of vying for its third straight Ballpark Digest Best of the Ballparks summer-collegiate section award. According to Ballparks Digest publisher Kevin Reichard, KMS advanced to the round of 16 with voting to begin the afternoon of Monday, June 19 at http://ballparkdigest.com/.

FUJIOKA JOINS JACKRABBITS COACHING STAFF: Mount Mercy College of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, assistant coach and former pitcher Devin Fujioka was added to the Jackrabbits coaching roster this past weekend, according to first-year field manager Gary McClure and general manager John Persyzk.
Fujioka has been with the Chargers of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ staff for three seasons since graduating from the east central Iowa school in the spring of 2014. He led a staff that tallied 19 wins, 13 complete games and 219 strikeouts in 2017 as part of a resume in which he has mentored three all-Heart of America Collegiate Conference pitchers during his coaching stint.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING: Hurlers Trey Bickel and Quentin Miller continue to reside in the PL’s top 10 for lowest earned run average. Bickel’s 1.29 mark over eight games is second lowest, while Miller is eighth (2.35). The Jackrabbits’ staff continues to be among the loop’s best in strikeouts with Will Freeman leading the way (31), Mike Anthony sitting second (28) and Bickel fifth (24) … Outfielder Luke Fegen continues to adorn the league’s statistical top slots, too. His team-leading .328 batting average is among the top 20, while his five doubles are tied for third best and he joins catcher/designated hitter Collin Butkiewicz, infielder Jarrod Watkins and infielder/outfielder Imani Willis for fifth in triples (two).
