Jackrabbits topple HannibalJuly 8, 2016
KOKOMO, IND. – Ball State University first baseman Caleb Stayton clouted a two-run home run, and the Kokomo Jackrabbits took advantage of a tough fielding night by visiting Hannibal to claim a 7-3 Prospect League win Friday, July 8.
Stayton’s fourth round tripper of the season cleared the right field fence, breaking up a pitching duel between the Gold and Brown’s Evan Lovick and the Cavemen’s Drew Flatford over the first three and a half frames. Hannibal proved pesky for the home side, breaking up the Baldwin-Wallace University starter’s shutout bid in the seventh with a pair of tallies. Lovick’s teammates picked him up in the home half, taking advantage of a two-out error by registering four straight hits to plate four runs for a 6-2 lead that proved insurmountable.
Stayton, in route to Coca-Cola Player of the Game honors, reached base in all four plate appearances and scored twice. Butler University infielder Connor Dall added a pair of runs scored.
The Jackrabbits (5-2 in the PL second half, 20-17 overall) conclude their pre-All Star break schedule with games at Lafayette’s Loeb Stadium against the rival Aviators Saturday and Sunday, July 9 and 10.
