Hannibal pitching stymies Jackrabbits

KOKOMO, IND. – One night after a near-flawless shutout effort from three pitchers for the home-standing Kokomo Jackrabbits, the visiting Hannibal Cavemen returned the favor at Kokomo Municipal Stadium Sunday, July 31.

Ryan Furtney struck out five and was touched for only three hits by the Gold and Brown (14-11 Prospect League second half, 29-26 overall) in route to a 5-1 victory. Infielder Connor Dall of Butler University came off the bench for a pair of singles to gain Coca-Cola Player of the Game honors, while outfielder Lance Mays of East Tennessee State University singled and scored the lone home team’s run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Kokomo begins the final week of the 2016 regular season Tuesday, Aug. 2, traveling to league rival Lafayette for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch at Loeb Stadium. They return home for a pair of pivotal contests against first half Eastern Division champions West Virginia Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 3 and 4. First pitch times are 6:35 p.m. Tuesday and 7:05 p.m. Wednesday.
