Line-up set for celebrity, Prospect League Eastern Division section home run derby eventsJuly 16, 2017
KOKOMO, IND. – Fans should make plans for fun Monday, July 16, as 10 players from the Prospect League and nine local celebrities vie for home run derby bragging rights.
Gates at Kokomo Municipal Stadium open to the public at 5:05 p.m. with a half-hour of player batting practice available to view. Sluggers battling for honors are hometown hopefuls Romero Harris and Storm Joop of the Jackrabbits; Mike Rothmund and Mike Webre (Danville); Ben Whetstone and Dalton Schumer (Quincy); and Dougie Parks and Brian Sharp (Lafayette).
A special celebrity big fly match-up starts at 5:30 p.m. District fire chief Ryan Smalley; Zach Rodman of the Kokomo Police Department; former Major League pitcher and Kokomo legend Joe Thatcher; Jackrabbits’ on-field host and Z92.5 FM personality Jessica Green; Z92.5 FM’s Ben Rutz; Indiana Sports Journal editor and photographer Billy Gibson; AM 1070 The Fan’s Greg Rakestraw; local legend Terry “Tater” Roach; and Kokomo Tribune city and county government reporter George Myers.
Following the conclusion of the celebrity event, special on-field introductions, entertainment by D.J. Pugh, and an address by league commissioner Dennis Bastien are scheduled from 6:30-7:05 p.m. The Eastern Division section derby begins at 7:05 p.m. with fireworks following at approximately 9:30 p.m.
