LISLE, ILL. – The Kokomo Jackrabbits ensured the final two games of the 2016 Prospect League Eastern Division race will go down to the wire.
Field manager Matt Howard’s crew improved to 15-13, closing a road set against the DuPage Drones with a resounding 8-3 win at Benedictine University’s Sports Complex Sunday, June 26. That victory, coupled with losses by West Virginia and Lafayette, put just a half-game between the three clubs.
The Jackrabbits broke open a scoreless pitchers’ duel between Lock Haven University’s Michael Anthony and the Drones Kyle Huckaby with an eight-run outburst over the final five frames. University of Missouri left fielder Alex Del Rio and Butler University second baseman Connor Dall each laced two hits as Del Rio homered and drove in three runs, while Dall doubled and finished with two RBI.
Kokomo’s attack was more than enough for Anthony and the three-armed bullpen arsenal of Butler University’s Quentin Miller, Indiana University – Southeast’s Ryne Underwood and Butler University’s Sam Hubbe. The quartet struck out 13 DuPage batters with Anthony topping the charts (eight).
The Gold and Brown conclude the first half of the 2016 PL season Tuesday and Wednesday, June 28 and 29. Kokomo hosts Chillicothe at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday and Lafayette at the same time Wednesday.
