Pitcher’s duel goes way of DanvilleAugust 5, 2016
DANVILLE, ILL. – Lock Haven University’s Mike Anthony and Indiana University – Southeast’s Ryne Underwood put in a determined effort at Danville Stadium Friday, August 5.
Anthony, looking to break through a personal three-game skid, fired seven strong innings against the second half Western Division pennant chasing Dans, striking out four and giving up just seven hits and two earned runs. Underwood, continuing to be reliable out of the Gold and Brown’s bullpen, fanned three and surrendered only one hit in two frames.
Despite their efforts, the home side’s pitching tandem of Ricky Karcher and Chris Fearon was just as tough on the visiting Jackrabbit bats. Karcher, giving up just one hit, registered 10 strikeouts in seven and two-thirds innings, and Fearon came out the pen for one and third frames in which he struck out three for a combined 13 Ks to lead Danville to a 2-0 Prospect League decision.
Field manager Matt Howard’s offense was led by the number two and three hitters in the line-up. Catcher Mitch Stoltzfus of Millersville University picked up two hits, and third baseman Connor Dall of Butler University added a single.
The Jackrabbits (15-14 PL second half, 30-29 overall) close out the regular season Saturday, August 6. The Lafayette Aviators visit Kokomo Municipal Stadium for a 7:05 p.m. start that’s highlighted by a pirate bobblehead give away to the first 2,000 fans in attendance and a post-game fireworks show.
