Danville wraps up weekend sweep

July 16, 2016

KOKOMO, IND. – The Danville Dans’ pitching combination of Bryan Ayres and Jake Davis combined to handcuff the Kokomo Jackrabbits offense Saturday, July 16.

The duo combined to fire 15 strikeouts in a nine-inning, five-hit shutout, wrapping up a weekend sweep of the Gold and Brown at Kokomo Municipal Stadium. Catcher Mitch Stoltzfus of Millersville University did give a large crowd of better than 2100 on Star Wars Jersey Night something to cheer about with the bat and glove, picking up one of the five safeties and throwing out two visiting runners attempting to steal. His efforts earned him Coca-Cola Player of the Game honors.

The Jackrabbits’ hurling trio of Evan Lovick of Baldwin-Wallace, Sam Hubbe of Butler University and Zach Drury of the University of North Florida did its level best to keep things close. They combined for six strikeouts despite being nicked for 14 hits.

Kokomo continues a six-game home stand Sunday, July 17. The Terre Haute TRex are in town for a 3:05 p.m. first pitch.
