STATISTICALLY SPEAKING: Indiana University-Southeast’s Clay Benefield, who’s held down a lion’s share of the starting duties at first base to date, has a team-best .389 batting average amongst the early-season regulars which includes three multiple-hit performances. Butler University player Connor Dall and fellow IU-Southeast team member Logan Barnes, are next in line at .278 and .250, respectively … Based on the 10-2 victory over the Paints, the trio of Ryan Hutchinson, Lance Mays and Caleb Stayton won’t take long to join that group. Mays, hailing from East Tennessee State University, drilled a three-run second inning home run to spotlight a seven-run second inning rally; Hutchinson, who plays at Illinois State University, went three-for-four; and Stayton, who is on Ball State University’s roster, missed a home run by a few feet, clanging a double off the wall in right field as part of a two-hit day … The Jackrabbits’ staff earned run average is a strong 3.89 through five games. Indiana University’s Parker Sanburn and Oberlin College’s Shawn Kiley have the two victories, while the bullpen has been impressive with the trio of IU-Southeast’s Ryne Underwood, Kean University’s Chris Amato and Lock Haven University’s Mike Anthony not having given up a run in a combined four and two thirds innings of work during the opening week.
